By enabling the search for products based on specific properties, so-called filtering, you can limit the number of search results that customers see, allowing them to find what they are looking for faster. Filters are related to the products you offer in your online store. For example, if you sell televisions, make sure your customers can search by specifications such as "Brand", "Screen Width" and "Color".

When you activate filters in your webshop, they are visible in product categories, search results pages and on all brand pages.

Before you can link filters to products, you must first create them via Products >Filters in your back office.

Filters are only available from an Advanced package.

Create filters

  1. In the left menu of the back office, go to Products >Filters.

  2. Click on Add filter in the top right of the screen.

  3. A pop-up window will open. Give the filter a name here, for example Brand or Color, and set the filter to active. Click on Save to create the relevant filter.

  4. In the overview, click on the filter you just created to add values.

  5. Click on Add Value to add a value.

  6. A pop-up window opens where you can add the value, for example Red. Click Save at the bottom right of the pop-up window to create the value. Repeat this process until you have added all filter values (maximum 15).

Using the filter function puts a heavy load on the Lightspeed databases because exponential relationships are created when using multiple filters. That is why there is a limit of a maximum of six different filters per webshop. A maximum of 15 filter values has been set per filter.

Link filters

Filters can be linked in two different ways, per product and to several products at the same time, in a so-called bulk action. This goes like this:

Per product

  1. Go to Products and select the product to which you want to add filters.

  2. Scroll down until you reach Filters . Here you can check which filter values apply to the product.

  3. Click on Save in the top/bottom right of the screen.

In bulk

  1. Go to Products and select the product to which you want to add filters.

  2. Activate the checkbox of the products to which you want to add filters.

  3. An option Bulk Actions will appear in the column title. Click to open the menu.

  4. Click on Change filters in the menu to add filters to the selected products.

  5. You will be redirected to a page where you can select the filter values per product. You do not need to save per product. On the left you can click on the products to change all values. This way you can walk through the products.

  6. Click on Save after you have linked filter values to all selected products.
