In Lightspeed eCom, you can set up discount rules that allow automatic discounts to be applied to the products you select. Lightspeed eCom only applies discounts to orders that meet the conditions of the relevant discount rule. For example, you want to create a rule that makes repeat customers eligible for an x% discount on their next purchase, where the value of X is determined by you.

Discount rules are different from discount codes, where customers must first enter a code at checkout to receive the discount.

Pay attention! Discount rules are activated by default from the Professional subscription. Do you want to use this? Please contact our Sales department: +31 20 820 23 91, choose 1 for Sales.

1. Creating discount rules

  1. Click in the left menu of the back office on Marketing > Discount rules.

  2. Click on Add a discount rule at the top of the screen to create a discount rule.

  3. A pop-up window will appear. Enter a name in the Title field that makes it easy to identify the relevant discount line. This name is only displayed in the back office.

  4. Select the desired discount type at Type:

    • Discount on product categories – with this you give a discount on products from the categories you have chosen.

    • Discount for customer groups – this allows you to give a discount to certain customer groups. You can set the discount amount or percentage. This discount applies to all products in your webshop.

    • Discount for returning customers – this allows you to give a discount to repeat customers. You can enter the minimum number of orders before customers are eligible for this discount. You can also set the discount amount or percentage.

    • Discount on minimum order amount – a discount is given on orders above the amount you set. You can also set the discount amount. For example, a $10 discount if customers order over $100.

    • Free delivery with minimum order amount – With this option you can offer free shipping depending on the order amount. For example, free shipping on orders above €100.

    • Free products with the purchase of x products – similar to a bundle discount. For example, if customers buy three of the same T-shirts, they get the fourth one for free.

    • Free delivery when you buy x products – free shipping if a product appears x times in an order.

    • Cheapest product for free when buying x products from categories – customers get the lowest priced product for free when they order x products from one or more categories you choose. You can determine the value of x yourself.

    • Buy x products from categories, receive y discount on the lowest-priced product -customers receive y discount on the lowest-priced product when they order x products from one or more categories of your choice. You can determine the value of x and y yourself.

2. Set up discount rules

  1. Go to the discount rules page (via Marketing > Discount rules in the left menu).

  2. Click the title of the discount rule you want to edit. This page displays the discount rule settings. These are general settings that are the same for all types of rules, as well as settings that are specific to the type of discount rule (which you selected when creating the rule).

Explanation of the Stop after discount rule setting

The Stop after discount rule setting lets you control what Lightspeed eCom does when rules overlap.

A worked example – you have created two discount lines. The first applies to repeat customers and offers them a 10% discount on all products. The second line offers customers a 10% discount if they buy a product from category x. In this scenario, repeat customers who order a product from category x will have both discount rules applied, resulting in a double discount of 20%. To prevent this, you can activate the Stop after discount rule setting for one of these two rules. In this example, the obvious choice is to prioritize the 10% discount rule for returning customers and activate the Stop after discount rule setting. If an order qualifies for this discount, no other discount rules will be applied.

You can change the order in which Lightspeed eCom stops applying discount rules by rearranging your rules in the grid on the discount rules page (via Marketing > Discount Rules in the left menu). Adjust the order of your discount lines by clicking on the order icon to the left of the relevant line and then drag it to the desired spot. It is important that you are very careful when creating multiple overlapping discount rules to ensure that they are applied correctly at the same time.
