Do you not agree with the standard translations of the system or do you want certain system names to be different? Then you can start working with Translations which can be found at Content > Translations via the left menu of the back office. This concerns words/phrases that you cannot change yourself in the back office, but that are already there by default. Think of various links such as About us, Customer Service, etc. or words that are used in the check-out. You can give these all a different name.
Pay attention! Editing does not change the function of a page or option.
How it works
Go to Content > Translations via the left menu of the back office.
At the top right of the screen are 2 buttons; Overwrite translation and Add custom translation. At Overwrite translation you can select the word/phrase you want to translate from a drop-down menu. Is the word/phrase you are looking for not in the drop-down menu? Then use the button Add custom translation to add a translation yourself.
Back to the old situation? Delete the translation by clicking the red trash can icon to the right of the translation.
Pay attention! Not all words can be translated. If both Overwrite translation and Add custom translation fail, it is not possible to translate the words.
Overwrite translation
Click on Overwrite translation at the top right of the screen.
A pop-up window opens where you can select a system word or phrase that you want to customize.
Translation to override - search here for the word/phrase you want to translate. When searching, a drop-down menu with results opens automatically.
Select the option you want to change.
Translation to - enter the new translation here. This can be anything you want. If you have added multiple languages to the back office, you will be given the option to adjust the translation for each language. It is not possible to leave this field empty.
My shopping cart is now changed to Shopping cart.At the bottom right of the pop-up window, click on Save. The translation is now applied in your webshop.
Add custom translation
Is the word or phrase you want to translate not in the Overwrite translation results? Then you can add your own custom translation.
Click on Add custom translation at the top right of the screen.
A pop-up window opens where you can enter a system word or phrase that you want to customize.
Translation key - enter the (English) word or phrase that you want to translate here. For example, RSS Feed, an option available in a number of themes, does not have a default translation within the Overwrite Translation option. Then fill in at Translation key RSS Feed . Pay attention! You must take over the full option. For example, if you only enter RSS, the translation will not work.
Translation to - enter the new translation here. This can be anything you want. If you have added multiple languages to the back office, you will be given the option to adjust the translation for each language. It is not possible to leave this field empty.
At the bottom right of the pop-up window, click on Save.
