Including PayPal as a payment option in your eCom store is a very simple process, allowing you to accept online payments in minutes. If you and your products qualify, PayPal will also protect you from fraud. For more information on PayPal's protection for merchants, click here.

  1. Create a PayPal Business account here on the PayPal website.

  2. Log in to your eCom Back Office and click Settings.

  3. Click Payment providers in the column titled Payment settings.

  4. Click on Add payment provider.

  5. Click Add next to PayPal.

  6. Activate the switch labeled Activate this payment provider.

  7. Make sure Live is selected in the drop-down menu labeled Mode.

  8. Make sure the switch labeled PayPal is turned on. Activate the other payment methods that your PayPal Business account can accept.

  9. Click on Save.

Check if PayPal is working correctly

  1. From Home in your eCom Back Office, click on View Online Store in the top right corner of the screen.

  2. Buy a product from your eCom store and use PayPal as a payment method. The buttons in the steps below may vary slightly depending on your theme.

    1. Add a product to your shopping cart.

    2. Click on My shopping cart.

    3. Click To checkout.

    4. Enter the name and address details in the first part of the checkout. What you enter is not important, this order will be cancelled.

    5. In the second part, select any shipping method. If no shipping methods are available, please create one. For more information click here.

    6. In the third part, choose PayPal as payment method

    7. In the last part you accept the terms and conditions and click on Buy.

  3. If you are redirected to a PayPal screen where you must log in to pay or enter your credit card information, you have successfully verified that PayPal is working.

  4. In the eCom Back Office, click Orders.

  5. Open the order you just created by clicking on the title of the order.

  6. At the bottom of the screen, click on Cancel order > Cancel order.

Set PayPal Currency

In most cases, PayPal will use your local currency and PayPal does not require any adjustments. If your PayPal account is in a currency other than the default currency of your eCom store, you can change the default currency within PayPal. You can check your eCom store's default currency in your eCom Back Office, in Settings > Internationalization.

  1. Log in to PayPal with your business PayPal account.

  2. Click the gear icon in the top left corner to open your profile.

  3. Click on My money.

  4. Make sure the currency you want to select is in the Currency Management section. If not, click pp Add currency. In the new page, select your new currency and click Add currency.

  5. To the right of the currency, hover over the more options icon and click Make primary.

Set up PayPal to automatically accept other currencies

If you're setting up a new international eCom store and plan to use your local PayPal account, you may need to update your PayPal settings regarding accepting currencies that you don't have.

For each individual payment, PayPal may ask you whether you want to accept or decline it. PayPal can also completely block all foreign payments. To prevent this, you can set PayPal to automatically accept foreign payments.

For example, let's say you have a local eCom store with the default currency set in EUR and an international eCom store with the default currency set in USD. Your PayPal account has set the primary currency in EUR. In this case, the currency of your international eCom store (USD) does not match the currency of your PayPal account (EUR). So your international customers may not be able to purchase from your store if PayPal either blocks them or asks you to decline or accept payments every time.

NOTE: This only applies if the default currency of your eCom store is different, not if you have added additional currencies in your eCom Back Office, Settings > Internationalization.

To make sure PayPal always accepts foreign currencies:

  1. Log in to PayPal with your business PayPal account.

  2. Open your profile and click on My sales tools.

  3. Click on Update next to Block payments.
